I AM A PILGRIM

I am a pilgrim on my way
From earth to heav’n above.
God’s Book will guide me, so I’ll stay
Within the lines of love.
Though endless now the road may seem,
And burdensome the strife,
My climb is onward with this theme:
“To life, eternal life!”

Lord, for my progress send me here
A faithful, hopeful friend;
A fellow pilgrim who can cheer
Me on to journey’s end.
But Christ, I need You most of all,
For dark, despond, despair
Would overwhelm me, and I’d fall,
Unless I’m in Your care.

Celestial City, here I come!
Lord, may you open wide
The gate of heaven’s happy Home
That I may there abide.
Then Christ, who set this burden free
That always weighed me down,
Will place a better weight on me:
His glory, and a crown.
